Första snön / The first snow + Halloween TV :)

Idag kom första snön! Det känns tidigt, men förrförra vintern kom den vid samma tid.

Today we had our first snowfall! It felt early, but 2 years ago it came around the same time.

Nu känns det som att jag håller på att bli sjuk...vilket innebär en hel del tid framför TV:n! Här är lite av vad jag sett hittills...

Now I think I'm coming down with something...which basically means lots of TV!

Bedlam is a TV-show that I didn't know about until yesterday, when my husband decided we'd watch it. It was spooky! And the next time I wake up screaming in the middle of the night (like I sometimes do when I dream about ghosts) it will be his fault! ;)

Halloween isn't Halloween without Tim Burton. Dark Shadows is one of his latest, very entertaining, movies. We watched it a few days ago.

Agatha Cristie's Poirot Hallowe'en party is really charming, if you like that kind of British crime dramas.

Bedlam är en TV-serie som jag inte visste fanns, förrän min man tog hem den igår. Den var riktigt spökig! Nästa gång jag drömmer mardrömmar om spöken och skriker mitt i natten så är det alltså hans fel ;)

Ingen Halloween utan Tim Burton! Dark Shadows, som vi såg för några dagar sedan, är en av hans senaste.

Agatha Cristie's Poirot Hallowe'en party är riktigt mysig, om man gillar den typen av brittiska deckare, som jag gör :)

Black cats bring GOOD luck

And white ones too.

In the US, they say that it's bad luck if a black cat crosses your path and good luck if a white one does. Over here they also say that the black cat means bad luck, but I never believed that. In fact, I’m convinced it’s the opposite.

In Scotland, however, they say that the black cat brings good luck, but if a white cat crosses your path it's bad luck! That can’t be right, either. Especially since I have two white cats of my own! I believe all cats bring good luck.

I’ve also read that killing a black cat on Halloween will bring 7 years of bad luck. That’s not the whole truth. In fact, killing any kind of cat, at any time, will bring 17 years of bad luck according to some. Others say it’s the same as sacrificing your soul to the Devil. Or at least it should be, to anyone who intentionally would harm a cat, if you ask me. :)

Before & after

I bought these paintings on a second hand store the other day. Cheap. But with a little black paint and some lace.....

...they're like new!

Speaking of butterflies, I saw this wallpaper today and thought it was cute. I would never have a black wallpaper in my home (too dark), but perhaps on a canvas? The skull is made of flowers and butterflies :)

Treats (for me!)

I've been collecting craft materials for halloween, for a while now. Among other things are ribbons and lace, lots of lace! And today I got this package (which by the way includes my five meters of tulle)! The Halloween season has officially begun.

This pretty little watch necklace I bought on an online auction.

It has a owl on the other side!

The lace in the picture I've made myself. I've been crocheting a lot of lace lately and I intend to show you all what I'm going to do with it later on :)

I've posted this pattern before in swedish, here.

And speaking of treats...the Winchesters are back! The first episode of season 8 has been aired, but I have not yet had the time to watch it...but soon :) This is one of my favourite TV shows of all time.

Yesterday was my birthday, and I decided it was time for me to grow up and make my own birthdaycake(s)! The one with the cat was the first cake I ever made! And the one with the candles was my second.

A few days ago, I ordered 5 meters/16,4 feet of tulle. (2 meters black, 2 meters white and one meter purple tulle.) Now, the question is, what am I going to do with it?? Maybe I'll make a ghost?

Maybe I'll make myself an apron similar to this one, since I spend most of my time in the kitchen at this time of year.

Day 1 of the countdown :)

(FYI this is my first post in English, which I haven't used in a long time. I'll apologize in advance if my English is a bit rusty...)

To those of you who may not know me, I live in a small town in the north of Sweden. Halloween is a new holiday over here. Although it was occasionally celebrated in Stockholm (the capital of Sweden) as early as the 1950's and 60's, it wasn't until 1990 a Swedish business chain decided to launch Halloween-stuff for real in Stockholm. During the following years, it spread to other big cities, like Göteborg and Malmö. Around 1995 Halloween had become more commonly known throughout the country.

I remember my first Halloween, it must have been around 95 or 96 (which means I was 10 or 11). It was love at first sight! Or something like that. We made a Jack'o'Lantern and we hade a cake in black and orange that said "Happy Halloween". And on that very night, the first snow came down! It was magical.

As a child, I never went trick-or-treating. I don't think anyone did, until recently. And still the trick-or-treaters are few, at least here in the city. Unfortunately, a big part of the Halloween celebrations over here is just another excuse for adults to dress up and get drunk for a night. That's why I'm really looking forward to participate in this online celebration - the countdown to Halloween!

And just in case a couple of trick or treaters would knock on my door, I promise I'll give them a better welcome than the Winchester brothers in Supernatural...
